Jatiya Party (JaPa) Secretary General Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary has demanded a ban on the politics of the Gono Odhikar Parishad of Nurul Haque Nur.
He made this demand while visiting the party’s central office in Kakrail at around 8:45pm on Friday. Earlier, a group of youths of the GOP attacked and set fire to the Jatiya Party’s central office around 7:15pm on Friday.
Shamim Haider said: “Since they are repeatedly behaving like this. Therefore, I will ask the government to ban the party under the Anti-Terrorism Act.”
Shakil Uzzaman, the GOP office secretary, said: “The Jatiya Party is an anti-national party. The angry public vandalised their office.”
Witnesses said that some people came in front of the Jatiya Party office at around 5:15pm. Later, they targeted the office and launched several attacks and later set it on fire. Bricks were hurled at the office at 7:15pm.

Earlier, after a solidarity rally at 6:30pm, GOP leaders and activists burned tires at Shahbagh intersection, demanding a ban on Jatiya Party politics. Later, they reached the GOP’s office at Bijoynagar with a procession.
At Shahbagh, the GOP’s rally was organised to demand punishment for the army and police personnel for the attack on Nurul Haque Nur, trial of the leaders of Jatiya Party and the 14 parties, ban and cancellation of registration, and the resignation of the home adviser.
Leaders of 30 political parties, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Yunus’ National Citizen Party (NCP) and Islami Andolan Bangladesh, joined the solidarity rally organised with the demands.
